I think it was for her birthday and as I remember was around Christmas. We all slept in the parlor I beleive and there was a huge Christmas tree and the place was looking so festive. Also the Opera House was in full swing that evening and got up the next morning and picked up the pennies, and dimes that the audience threw at the actors. Was a lot of fun. As far as sleeping, that was another thing, any little thing that went bump in the nite, I was afraid might be a ghost! Did you also live in the Casa and do you have any good ghost stories about it? Our backyard was bordered by the Los Alamitos Creek and almost directly behind us on the other side of the creek was the Hacienda Cemetary. You are quite right, the cemetary is on both sides of Bertram Rd. Mostly buried in this cemetary are children, many of them victims of the Spanish influenza which swept around the world in or about 1929. The severed arm buried at Hacienda really isn't as strange as it first appears. At some point in time a law had been passed in California requiring it's residents to give decent and proper burials to severed limbs and appendages. As for spirit or ghostly activity associated with the Hacienda Cemetary, I can only say I experienced something on almost a nightly basis. My experiences included "seeing" small pinpoints of various colored lights coming from the cemetary, crossing the creek and moving through both my yard and house. Also more than once I saw arrows, broken 2/3 down their shaft, on fire at the joint hit my bedroom window. The native Indians who coveted the red cinnabar found in this area buried their dead along creeks and rivers. Our history books say little about the "Vermillion Wars" raged by opposing groups of Indians battling for control of the source of their cinnabar.
